What is an electric car or EV?
An electric car or an EV is a vehicle that runs on electricity or electric current stored in a battery. These electric cars or EVs do not carry any engine usually placed in traditional cars like petrol engines or diesel engines because those traditional engines use the fuel for combustion and generate the power to run the car.
But now, since the inception of electric cars, cars do not need any engine because no fuel is needed to burn to generate power. A rechargeable battery is placed inside the car, and a motor inside an electric car or EV makes the car run.

Unlike engine cars, these electric cars or EVs do not create a lot of noise and are much silent and smoother.
Why are Electric cars or EVs the need of the hour?
We all are somewhat aware of the air pollution in the cities which is making it difficult for us to live in such polluted cities. Pollution causes various kinds of diseases like cancer, asthma, and skin diseases and deteriorates the health of human beings.

So, to minimize the pollution spread by human activities, we should shift to electric cars or EVs from petrol or diesel engine cars.
Who should prefer an electric car or an EV?
Anyone who is running within a city like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, etc on a daily basis should prefer an electric car or an EV because there is a reason behind it.
The reason is that the range offered by these electric cars is approximately 200 kilometers to 500 kilometers on one full charge. Now you will think that you can charge the battery anywhere and continue your journey but the fact is that proper infrastructure for fast charging is not available to an extent and regular charging takes long hours to charge the battery.
Color of the Number Plate of Electric Cars or EVs
As we have seen the usual color of the number plates of regular petrol or diesel engine cars is white and black (white background and black fonts). In electric cars or EVs, the number plates are colored differently to differentiate them from the other normal cars.

Electric cars or EVs number plates are green and white (green background with white fonts) to give out the message that it is an electric vehicle and it is environment friendly as it does not contribute the air pollution and is more silent than other cars.
Range of Electric Cars
As of now i.e. 2024, there are various electric cars available in the Indian market and the most popular ones are from Tata. There are many Tata cars like Tata Tiago, Tata Punch, Tata Tigor, Tata Nexon, etc. on the roads, and are becoming more popular among the people.
The range offered by the cars that are currently available in the market is approximately 200 km to 500 kilometers. It is expected to increase with time as research is going on to increase the range of electric cars or EVs so that people can travel long distances as well.
Conclusion
Electric cars or EVs are a great invention keeping the environment in mind. Air pollution has gone to such an extent in cities like Delhi and other metro cities that is making it very difficult for us to reside in these cities.
There are various reasons behind air pollution like the expansion of cities to the outwards of the cities where factories and industries were set up, increased usage of vehicles, owning private vehicles, construction and other human activities have contributed to the air pollution.
So, to minimize the pollution contributed by cars or vehicles, we should prefer public transport like metro trains and if you want to own a private vehicle, you should consider an electric car or an EV.
